May 16, 2019 I am using iTunes 4 on my PowerBook G4 running Tiger. However when I try to play a song I've purchased from iTunes it tells me 'This computer is not authorized to play songs purchased by this account' (Not exact message but close) Is there any way to spoof the authorization, or a hack to. The latest version of iTunes that can run on Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger is 9.2.1, because 10.0 only supports Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard and later. Safari 4.1.3 is the final version for Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger. Oct 26, 2004 Offering a demonstration of Tiger features and the Xcode development environment at the O'Reilly Mac OS X Conference, officials say the forthcoming release is still due in spring 2005. Includes support for OS X Mountain Lion and addresses a number of important issues. Last version of iTunes to support Mac computers with Mac OS X 10.5.8 or any PowerPC processors. 10.6-10.8: XP-8: September 12, 2012; 7 years ago Support for iOS 6, iPhone 5. Oct 19, 2011 I've got a G3 iBook running OS X Tiger 10.4.11 and iTunes 8.2.1. Whenever I try to access the iTunes store all I get is a screen suggesting. That I upgrade my iTunes to version 10.3. I can't do this because iTunes v10. Won't run without an OS X upgrade, which my G3 can't do. Leopard being an OS too far. For my machine.

Yep, did this with my iPod mini for my wife's 500MHz G3. Something that's worth mentioning, is that this method (from any Firewire drive, not just an iPod) is better than installing to the computer in question via target disc mode. The installation routine makes many decisions based on the hardware that the installer is being run on, and of course, is blind to any hardware surrounding the drive if you turn your iMac/eMac/iBook in target mode.
And AFAIK, you won't even have a usable install if you try to go from one processor family to another. IOW, if you have a G5 and do an install on your G4 iBook in target mode, your installation won't work.

How do you get around the need to boot from the install disk?
You don't get around it. You plug your iPod or Firewire drive into the computer you want to install Tiger to, and run the installer app. It handles everything from there.
When restoring the Install DVD on the iPod, the iPod becomes bootable.
Doing an install from one machine to another in target mode works regardless of what processor you have in each.
For example, I did an install from a G5 to a G3 in target mode that didn't have a DVD drive. Worked fine.

It might not work going the other way, though. Booting off an older system to install on a newer one.
Not sure why you would want to, though.

Quick question--did you have to use firewire to connect the pod to the puter or could one just use a USB connect? That's my problem right now; wondering how best to upgrade an iMac with only USB connects.

If it did work, it would not be worth the time spent using slow USB1. 10.4 requires computers with built-in FireWire.
Actually with a retail install disk the install is universal.
I manage computer labs at a university and my Tiger deployment is as follows:
1. Set up a G5 with the system load
2. User Carbon Copy Cloner to put it on anything necessary back to a B&W G3.
3. Go back to the PC labs were just about any minor hardware change requires a new image...
This is one of the few concerns I have about Mac OS X for Intel. When I get those machines, I may have to manage multiple images for Macs now.

Everything went fine until the booting. The system just hangs on the grey screen with the wellknown apple...
I'm tryng to install on a PowerPC G4 AGP.

i installed tiger using roughly the same method, but i used a partition on my hard drive instead. i backed up the partition to an external hard drive and did the restore thing, then opened using that partition and bammo.

If only there was a way to do this and keep the iPod working as an iPod. I'd love to have my iPod be a Tiger Installer, and also be an iPod.
Maybe if it could be partitioned, with the first partition being the normal iPod and the 2nd partition having the install.
Am I brave enough to try this?
Maybe later.

I didn't have any trouble installing Tiger on my iPod, and it still works fine in its typical music player and disk mode usage as well. Yet another reason why an iPod can be handy - emergency bootup disk. Just don't wipe the normal iPod format/software off of it beforehand and you should be fine. I used the lastest iPod Updater to clear out the prev Panther install I had on it by restoring it to factory condition, then went ahead and booted off the Install DVD, pointed it at the iPod, and off it went.
Though... using the iPod as an Installer for Tiger itself... not so sure about that. You could always give it a try - worst case, time down the drain and a reformat followed by restore due for your iPod.
yes you can i did it 4 times already with a 2nd gen ipod!
just use the restore function in disk utility. don't erase.
i even installed and ran tiger on my ipod just to see if i could do it...awsome i tell you.....

I have a Classic 5GB iPod that now has a purpose.
Just to note, you don't need to erase the iPod or firewire hard drive; there just needs to be sufficient space for copying.
I have a Lacie Posket drive formatted HFS+ and restored the Tiger DVD via Disk Utility to it. It's seen as a start up volume but the Installer won't run and It dosn't want to boot off it. I'm trying to Install it on a iBook SE 466mhz 192M RAM. Everthing looks right.
Help?
Help?
look at your configuration and then look at the System requirements for Tiger, I believe it calls for 256 MB of RAM
I just tried this hint to install Tiger on a 400 MHz G4 Power Mac with PCI graphics. The G4 wouldn't boot from my external drive (a DViCO 3.5' enclosure) so I had to plug the disk in the tower as slave to install. It worked just fine.
will this work with a Blue&White G3 ?
just sent for the CD trade in & am waiting . . . . .

When I click the 'Restore' button a window pops up saying:
'Restore Failure
Lost connection to helper tool'
Why might this be?

Install Tiger from an iPod- start from OS X version
I did this and it works, but I made the mistake of getting rid of all my OS X versions before trying to start the Tiger installation process.
When I tried to start installing Tiger from OS 9, the installer could not select the iPod as a startup disk. I tried this from two different OS 9 installations.
After I installed OS 10.1 on a partition and started up from that OS, I was then able to successfully startup the tiger install process from the iPod.
So... I gather that to do this one needs to be booting from a version of OS X. The Tiger installer will not be able to select the iPod as a startup disk if starting in OS 9.

I was successful in using the ipod mini to create a image of the 10.4 disk. However, I can't open the image. Tried everything I can think of to open it. Has anyone experienced this problem?

I don't remember Tiger having more that one DVD.
I don't think it should be an image. If you use 'restore' in Disk Utility, it should look as if the actual DVD was on your iPod, so opening your iPod would show the 'Install Mac OS X' program or something similar, not an image.
you dont have to erase your ipod at all, just have sufficient space to store osx install DVD. (as someone else mentioned)
if you have the DVD, or an image file, go to disk utility and restore the image/DVD (either select disk image file, or DVD in your drive) to your ipod.
boot from the ipod (restart and hold option key on restart, select ipod)
osx installer should start automatically, and you roll from there.

I assume the iPod must be connected by Firewire? Else it won't be seen as a bootable disk by a PPC Mac.
